Not a Fan of These Long Winter Months

Maybe it is the short days. Maybe it is because I live in a valley and it begins to feel as though the sun doesn't shine for days. I don't know, but I really don't like this time of year too much. I think I am also in a bit of a funk since being in Maine - - I am missing family and friends, and feeling rather alone way out here. Yes, I am whiny today. A little down in the dumps, too. Must not wallow though, not very productive.

On a completely unrelated topic, I am currently attempting to rid my home of toxic cleaning products. Why, you ask? Well, I just feel like since there are other options readily available, I want to give them a try. I've been trying a few things from Seventh Generation, as well as Method. I'm also going to try some things from Melaleuca, but haven't ordered anything yet. Yesterday, I bought some Method furniture polish, and it is great! I bought a container of the pop-up furniture wipes, because they were inexpensive, and I didn't want to commit to a big old bottle before I knew whether or not I liked it. I loved them, and a little goes a long way. I'm sure you will all be checking my blog daily, just hoping and praying that I will be posting another natural cleaning product review.

Back to the weather. Days like this make me feel like locking myself in the kitchen and baking all day. This is probably why people pack on the pounds in the winter, no doubt. I just want to bake breads, cookies, and all sorts of other carb-laden goodies. Maybe I will. So there.

Really admiring how much you're blogging and enjoying reading it every day! I think we all feel down in the dumps this time of year..getting dark so early in the year and the cold weather just bums me out.
I also have been using the Method brand and really like it..so nice to find inexpensive brands that are non-toxic.

I've just decided to switch to non-toxic, natural products too. As a matter of fact, I just bought 3 Method products today. I guess you and I are on the same wavelength. I got the cucumber aloe ones and the house smells so great now - not an easy feat with two kids, a husband and three cats.

I've had a non-toxic home for 10 years now solely using Melaleuca and the effects are awesome. Our now 17 year old doesn't have allergies anymore, no more bloody noses either! I love that if my little ones get into something that may get sick but they won't DIE! I love that I wash my fruits and veggies in their organic all purpose cleaner... the list goes on and on and that's not mentioning it's good for the environment! ha!

Hi Heather,

First, you're doing an amazing job of posting your daily blogs although you're without a home computer.

Run to Albertson's and stock up on baking soda and white vinegar. They're two of the best non-toxic cleaning agents available, and they cost much less than others. White vinegar is great for wiping down counter tops, polishing windows and mirrors, etc. Baking soda is a natural cleaning abrasive. Use it to clean your sink, remove scum from shower walls, and polish your stove top. I couldn't get by without either!

How is Griffin's walking coming along?

Love, Aunt Jean

I'm loving all the comments about the natural cleaning products...Aunt Jean made a good point about vinegar and baking soda. I've got to get some more baking soda next week, but I've got a huge jug of vinegar in my cleaning closet already. Even though I'm still "phasing out" all my toxic stuff, I feel better already knowing that I'm making the switch.
