Pardon Me...

...I've been away for a few days. Watching t.v..

We had cable installed last week, which, my dear friend Terri quickly reminded me, is now called "satellite" t.v.. Before Steve married me, he didn't have a television. After we got married, and I brought the evil box into his home, we've only ever had the local channels, which really turned out to be just one very fuzzy station (NBC, thank goodness) - - two on a good day (if I could get the rabbit ears positioned just right).

After throwing a particularly melodramatic hissy fit while my father was visiting recently (because I couldn't get Dancing With The Stars to come in, and darn it! I wanted to watch Dancing With The Stars!) I decided enough was enough. So, last Wednesday, a couple of strapping young men from Dish Network arrived at my house, threw a couple of satellite dishes up on the roof, and the rest is history. I have watched countless episodes of What Not to Wear, Designed to Sell, John & Kate Plus Eight, oodles of cooking shows on the Food Network, and tonight, I watched Dancing With The Stars without a spec of static. It was glorious, I tell you.

The only really good thing about not having our t.v. come in was that we rarely watched television. Camden has only ever really watched videos or DVD's. Griffin doesn't care about television at all, unless Elmo is involved. I was a little concerned about having a bazillion channels, and a bunch of cartoons that I didn't want the boys watching. Luckily, on a hint from the lovely Terri, I'm keeping Camden's t.v. viewing confined to PBS or Noggin, and only during "quiet time" each day. As of tonight I'm putting an end to my nearly week-long t.v. binge, and am going to try to get back to normal, tomorrow. Just knowing that I can watch HGTV whenever I want makes me a happy girl.

Woohoo!! Sounds like you've been in a trance the past week! I love Food Network, Sandra Lee and Ask Aida my favorites. Enjoy!

Fear not Heather. Even with a slew of TV channels we really only watch a handful. Noggin - YAY! HGTV - couldn't live without it. The Weather Channel - words can't describe my addiction to it! But my kids watch PBS. Allison's favorite show at the moment is Word Girl. I love when we're sitting at dinner and she stares off into space and then informs me that she was 'dazed'. That was one of the new words on Word Girl that day. Too cute. I do agree that TV is an evil beast if you allow it to be. Keep a tight hold on the reigns and you'll all survive the channel bombardment. Enjoy!

That's funny that you mentioned Word Girl, Lisa. That is what Camden watches during "quiet time" each day and he LOVES it. I don't think he even realizes there are a bunch of choices for t.v. now - - he just thinks the men came to fix the t.v. so the picture would come in!

Ahhh, tv. I was in my 14 month of pg'y with the twisters when we got DirecTV...awwwesome! Prior to that I only had NBC as well. :D

HGTV is my Saturday morning go-to, with a big mug of coffee. And I've recently started watching Amazing Wedding Cakes on WEtv - you'd love it, they make miracles with fondant!

Wow-sounds like you have hit the jackpot in your household! And its o.k. to watch tv for a week straight, after all you've had to endure without it all these many years :) My kids always loved PBS as well.

I doubt very much you sat and watched t.v. all week. I would sooner believe you painted the family room, cooked, played with the boys, prepared story time, etc. while the t.v. was on in the background. Love ya! Mum

I was watching Ace of Cakes last night on Food Network and thought of you. Have you discovered that one yet? They make the most amazing cakes.

Yes, I've seen Ace of Cakes...I can tell I'll be watching that show, too. I watched the episode where they made a cake of the Stanley Cup. That was just crazy.
